Get the look from our composite decking video – Styling tips and finishing touches for your garden

If you’re not sure where to start when it comes to adding the finishing touches to your garden, you’re not alone. Whilst redesigning your garden to maximise your space and usability is exciting, its often hard to visualise how to bring it all together to make your project feel complete.

The great news is that it’s easy to re-create the relaxed styling from our Dura Deck Flip composite decking video. Whether you want an outdoor space that’s colourful and varied, or all you want to do is kick back and relax, here’s what you need to know to get started.

1. Low maintenance decking

Before you decide on your decking, take time to consider your plot. Look at the size and shape and take into consideration the direction of the sun. Do you want to create different zones for day and evening, or do some areas of your garden have little shade and therefore get hotter than others? With alternative decking, Dura Deck Flip you can use two colours in the same design, so you needn’t worry about using a dark colour in the wrong area and your deck getting too hot underfoot. You can also create eye catching framed or striped areas with ease. Get creative using the contrasting colour to define an outdoor kitchen space, dining area or plant haven. The only limit is your imagination.

2. Hassle free plants

If you’re new to gardening and want maximum impact with minimal effort then choosing the right trees, plants and shrubs is crucial. If you’re looking for maximum drama and can afford it, then buy your plants at the size you want them, then trim them when they get too big. If you buy small, hoping for them to grow, it could affect the instant impact you want to create. As seen in the Dura Deck video, good low maintenance choices for planters are ornamental grasses, and adding them to containers is a great way to add height, colour and interest without the worry of them spreading too far and taking over the garden.

3. Slimline garden furniture

Until recently, chunky rattan furniture was the go-to choice, but this year sees furniture with slimmer and sleeker lines taking centre stage. With the right furniture, even the smallest of gardens can seem a lot bigger than it really is, and choosing a classic slimline cane or webbed style like the one shown in our video leaves you plenty of scope to accessorise and change your look with the seasons.

4. Be bold with your accessories

Your garden backdrop gives you great freedom to be creative when it comes to adding the finishing touches that will really bring your look together. Don’t be confined by the colour scheme inside your home. Think big and bold and add items that really do spark joy. Add pops of colour with throws and outdoor rugs, and don’t be afraid to use pretty glassware and crockery that you might otherwise only think about keeping ‘for best’ – we’ve all spent far too long indoors in the past 12 months, now is the time to get out there and enjoy sharing the space you have with friends and family.

If you’re a collector, think about how you might display your collection in a quirky way in your garden. The maximalism interiors trend which embraces colour, pattern and texture can also be applied to outdoor spaces – think oversized storm lanterns to create a cosy evening haven, or fun-coloured bottles, grouped together so they catch the sunlight as it passes over your deck.

However you style your garden this summer, there’s no doubt that just being in a green space boosts your wellbeing, so if you need further help and advice in turning your garden wish list into reality, be sure to grab yourself a free sample of composite decking.
