How to choose the best camping site

Campsite selection can affect the success of the camping trip.

Perhaps, many people have once picked a campsite that was not an ideal location. Some campsites have no shelter from strong winds or were set up on a slope leading you to slide down most of the night.

This is the reason why you need to choose UK Camping Sites wisely so that your camping trip should get off to a good start. This post explains how to choose the best camping site.

The size

Campsites can vary in size, so you need to figure out the right side of the camping set up. Some of the factors you need to think about include the size of a tent, the number of tents to fit into a single campsite, space for the tables and chairs, and the size of the camper trailer.

Keep in mind that if you are paying for a campsite, then you may not encroach into another campsite without paying for the other one. You must think about the room you need depending on the camping gear you take with you.

Another important consideration when it comes to choosing the best size of your camping site is whether or not you will be utilizing a campfire. You need to avoid having a campfire that is close to the camping gear like the tent. This means the fire has to be far enough away so that the smoke doesn’t get through your tent. The camping site should also fit the camping gear and keep a campfire safely.

Level

If you intend to sleep on a hill, you may slide out of the bed or even have blood rushing to the head. This is why you must look for a campsite that is good and flat to make a shelter. You don’t want to have the legs higher than your head. But finding a level spot for sleeping can sometimes be quite hard. So you may have a site with a gentle slope, though you may need to sleep with the head at the top of the slope.

Therefore, the other camping gear can be placed on a slope, and things like the drinks can slide off the table, but nothing too serious. Another reason for choosing a level spot is to manage rain. You see, a campsite that dips, meaning the water may pool to create puddles. In such cases, there is a good chance that the water can get into the tent.

Shade

If there is going to be warm weather, then you need to find a campsite that has some shade. Therefore, look around at the campsite at the trees, and check the type of trees that are growing close to your desired campsite.

Gum trees are known for unexpectedly dropping off limbs, especially when there is heat and then rain. No wonder, they are sometimes called widowmakers for a good reason. Hence, you need to avoid setting up a camp under large gums or even any large trees that have large boughs or are dead.

Trees that look alive and healthy can offer much-needed shade, though you need to consider their location within the campsite. You need to find a place where the tree will offer afternoon shade. So figure out the location of the sunrise and sunset.

You can place the camping gear where you can benefit most from the afternoon shade. If you arrive at the camping site in the morning, then it’s a good idea to think in advance about the location of the campsite. If you are a hammock camper, trees can be crucial to the camping experience.

That said, a breeze can be a nice thing to have on a campsite. This is because a breeze can blow away smoke coming from campfires and help to cool you when it’s a hot day. However, severe winds can make the camping experience hard and can even lead to the loss of your belongings and shelter. Therefore, you need to have some protection from such winds. This can be a stable boulder, dune, and hills, all these can benefit you when selecting an ideal campsite.

Location

When looking at a campsite, you must consider all must-have needs like shade and size, and then all the will-like-if-possible needs. This means you need to determine what you want in a Side Farm Campsite. It’s worth noting that some of the things may not be that important to you. For example, you may not care if there is a snoring sound at night, or have many people walking past your campsite.

You need to consider the water source’s proximity to the campsite. You may want to have drinking water, so make sure that you understand the walking distance to access the water.

The toilets are also an essential factor you need to consider. You need to find out how far the toilets are from the campsite. So they can be close to the tent, but you can expect foot traffic and some odors.

Aside from these, the proximity of other campsites can also affect the camping experience. The next site can be near or far away, but there is usually a lot of noise if you squeeze into a small camping space. When you choose a campsite that is next to another campsite, there may not be enough privacy.

Neighbors

When you attempt to find a campsite, there are chances that other people are already at the campsite. This is why some people usually look at the campers to make their campsite choice.

Therefore, if the other campers have generators on throughout the day or even trash across the place, perhaps you may not have a great camping experience. Likewise, if you see unleashed dogs running across the place or campers drinking a lot of beer by mid-morning, it may not be funny to set up camp near them. In such cases, it’s a good idea to move on and look for another camping spot.
