Accessible luxury through Frederique Constant

WHILE the brand is not very familiar to many Filipinos, Watchpro, the UK magazine and website devoted to timepieces, named the Frederique Constant Smartwatch Vitality as one of five top Smartwatches for 2020. Frederique Constant also boasts of limited edition timepieces that are getting the attention of serious aficionados. Elias Toledo, who curates for Leon Gallery’s watch auctions, pointed to the top-end Frederique Constant Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon. “There are only 30 pieces in the world, and one is in the Philippines. Priced at P1.9 million, it’s definitely in the collectible range, with good reason. When you get a perpetual calendar watch from other established brands, you’ll be paying from P8-P10 million. That’s why it’s amazing to see Frederique Constant’s version, with such complexities at a fairly reasonable price point.” Not all its items are as costly, as Rainier Jacinto, marketing services manager for Frederique Constant’s Philippine distributor Wizer Industries, noted, prices start from around P50,000 and P60,000, up to just under P2 million. The brand also introduced its new endorser, Marco Lobregat, in December. Frederique Constant is available at its mono-brand concept stores in SM Mall of Asia and the Podium and at Tempus SM Lanang Premier and Tempus SM CDO Premier.

Alpina Watches in the Philippines

ESTABLISHED in 1883, the Swiss brand Alpina has retained its core philosophy of providing some of the best watches for extreme environmental conditions. Its precise and sturdy timepieces were used by military aviators during World War I, and Alpina was the first to issue an international watch guarantee in 1926. In 1938 it introduced the Alpina 4 which was antimagnetic, antishock, water resistant, and protected by a robust case and a stainless steel bracelet. In the late 1960s, it came out with the Alpina Diver 10 Seastrong, a professional diver’s watch with two crowns, with the other one for decompression time. The brand was acquired by Frederique Constant in 2002, and reentered the market with a line of sport watches exhibited at the Baselworld International Watch fair the following year. A succession of  editions followed, all catering to the extreme sports niche. In 2006, Alpina unveiled the Avalanche Extreme, which was followed by similar models made for various sports. But it was a diver’s watch that would bolster the brand’s resurgent image. In celebration of World Ocean Day, the Swiss brand unveiled the Alpina Seastrong Diver Gyre Automatic in partnership with Gyre Watch which uses earth-friendly recycled materials. It features a casing made of 70% plastic culled from the ocean and 30% fiberglass for reinforcement. Likewise, the two-tone NATO strap is composed of recycled plastic bottles. It released a limited edition of 1,883 to mark the watchmaker’s founding year, with three styles for men and two for women. It also announced its partnership with the Geneva-based No Difference Association, which helps people with disabilities achieve their dreams, especially in the field of sports. Alpina Watches’s latest collection is available at SM City North Edsa North Towers Bridgeway, or visit Tempus stores at The Podium and SM Mall of Asia.

Montblanc uses M logo on leather goods

WITH the launch of the Montblanc M_Gram 4810 collection, Montblanc is introducing a new original M pattern inspired by the Maison’s heritage. Set to become a Montblanc design signature, the original all-over logo treatment features a collection of large, medium and small leather goods including a backpack, a duffle bag, a pouch, wallets and belts. The unisex line of compact shapes in a combination of black and blue was conceived to stylishly accompany both women and men on their urban adventures. The two-colour tone M pattern is inspired by the geometry and lettering of graphics from the Montblanc archives. It is derived from the Montblanc wordmark developed in the 1920s and used — only slightly altered — in the Maison’s communications alongside the iconic Montblanc logo until this day.
